Description

We don't currently support split window, which makes certain tasks such as side-by-side comparison between two documents impossible.

Impact

Users who are used to tiling windows / split windows in other applications.

For reference there was a PR #3337 for this feature but it did not get merged. Seems like there are a lot of moving parts to it so it was moved down the priority list.
So just before someone starts to work on it from scratch maybe they can look at the PR and check if there's any reusable code.
