Changing multiplayer host mid-game?

We were playing SR2, and the player who hosted the game have resigned. How do we continue the game? When i try to load his save, the game doesn't let me choose the empire to play for.

You... shouldn't even have a savefile to load?

He sent me the savefile since he doesn't want to run the client.

Interesting. Hmm. Probably thinks you're the original host and assigns you to his empire by default...

Have you tried pressing F2 while in the game? That should bring up an empire chooser.
