Allowing Race choice to grant a player 2-3 Passives automatically, as well as a +1 to 1-2 stats.
These can be divided by the general type of race, rather than each race individually, especially for Animal Folk. Certain types of Animal Folk have some pre-selected Passive Powers and can choose a third that corresponds with their specific chosen sub-race.
Land Based (Land Speed Increase + 2 Passive Choices
Air Based (Flight + Far Sight + 1 Passive Choice)
Insect Folk (Dark Sight + 2 Passive Choices)
Current gap
Right now everything is point based. Let's make Race choice matter so players can optimize a Race for specific types of builds.
I want to build this out for Humans + Animal/Insect Folk because for Alpha/Beta I don't want to lean too heavily on traditional fantasy tropes. We may want to incorporate that in the future, with fantasy races that others would be familiar with, but Animal Folk and the Elemental Connection we are going for with Erdania is best suited for us to strike on our own with a unique Fantasy Setting with proprietary races such as the Spider Folk and Aquarian Races, etc.
Additional Context
I am working on a full list of sub-races and background Lore for the Animal Folk and Insect Folk. See below for a comment with the Insect Folk origin story and sub races.
The text was updated successfully, but these errors were encountered:
When Locklear and Elwood transported all of the people and animals to the other plane, he also inadvertently brought millions of insects with them.
These insects were present when Elwood channeled magical energy into part of the Ark and created the Animal Folk. A large population of them became the Insect Folk, across varying species that have since proliferated and spread among a multitude of species and races.
The Spider Folk are the dominant in society, seemingly at the upper echelons like the nobility. They were able to use their steel-strength silk to construct the majority of the underground cities in the Under.
Ant Folk have helped build society and are seen as the working class of the Under. They are often groups of thousands of Ant Folk all under a single Queen that have taken over large swaths of the Under and are also more prevalent on the surface where new areas need to be mined and harvested for the Insect Folk.
Other Insect Folk have joined in colonies within the Under as well as on the surface, taking over entire islands and overrunning some occupied land in the Pelagian Seas. They are a nuisance to many and a dangerous threat to some, so groups of warriors known as the Bug Hunters roam the seas completing contracts for killing Insect Folk and ridding islands of the source of the Insect Folk, which are often series of tunnels connected to the Under.
@CBroz1 - I agree, and I think if we keep Race choices til a later date we could add a few test Passives in for Closed Beta that would eventually fall into the domain of Race traits. i.e. darksight, flying speed, increased movement speed, etc.
