When targeting an ability (and there are multiple targets available), there should be some little icons next to the health widgets indicating the best targets based on mastery stats and defense (maybe even creature size), showing a green arrow pointing upwards if the damage is increased, no icon if the damage is roughly the same and a red arrow pointing downwards if the damage would be decreased. The arrow could be filled if triggering some extra effect, otherwise empty.

This could also be approached by doing something to the viable unit avatars, like lowering their positions or having an extra frame (different types), so there would be a top 3 (or 5) made if possible, which will indicate current possible targets for the selected ability.
