I rather doubt the developer is even watching his GitHub page, or even his emails, at the moment. Hope shall spring eternal that we will eventually get some sort of explanation at the very least. Fortunately, Roku has been being very reasonable at offering refunds for those who "purchased" the channel before it was redacted. |
How do we get refund? |
The app on Google play store has info where developer is located. Looks like a small house in small neighborhood. Probably some guy in his spare time did this and bailed out on it. Killed the website it had for it too. Dude pulled the plug on it and said nothing. Don't expect a response. Clearly he/she is an asshole. |
Twitched was removed by Roku at the request of Twitch Interactive. This repo has been updated with the full source of the Twitched Roku app and Twitched API server. Both are under the GPLv2 license. It is probably not useful to most as it is cumbersome to set up. Roku will most likely not allow this on their devices even as an unlisted or dev channel in any case. |
Weird. Why doesn't Twitch Interactive go after 3rd party Apple TV apps like Twitchy? |
@rolandoislas Do you know if removal was requested because of use of undocumented API endpoints? I wonder if exclusively using the latest API would be allowed. |
This is my guess. Twitchy just updated their Apple TV app to use v5 of the Twitch API with no issues. |
Can we please get an official response to why Twitched was deleted from our devices? I have a sneaking suspicion the dev got paid off by Twitch to remove their app from Roku. Or was it Roku that removed the app?
I don't see why the app needed to be forcibly deleted from people's devices. If support by the dev was dropped then let us continue using the app until it breaks, just like the official Twitch app which is no longer supported but which we can continue using.
Either way, regardless of who sent the delete command, the ability to delete an app from people's devices is a horrible feature of the Roku platform and I will be moving to a Fire TV 4K stick once they go on sale.
