Could an overall term expressing that a participant has provided informed consent be added? #3
Comments
We are having a call of members of the ICO team today where I hope to discuss this item. Sorry for the delay. I have thought about the need to have a concept/class such as "legally effective informed consent obtained". Do you think this would address your issue? |
something like that would be great - but it will need to have at least two states. One in which consent is obtained on a given matter, another where it was "refused" or "declined". A person can participate in an overall study but decline to share certain results to 3rd parties (or publicly) for example. |
Any outcome yet on this? I have a few terms in GenEpiO ontology covering this that I'd rather use your ID's for. Thx. |
Hi Damion,
Sorry for the long delay over the holidays. We have put a proposal together
and will be discussing it today with members of the OBO Foundry and OBI.
I've attached a slide that shows our proposal. See if this works for you.
We would also be interested in other thoughts and use cases that ICO is not
addressing at the moment or needs to include. We are currently working
through a list of about 30 or so missing classes/terms that will be added.
However, Oliver He and I feel we can address yours very quickly if the team
approves this afternoon. I'll try to do a better job keeping you appraised
of our progress.
Regards,
-- Frank

Sounds good! I think maybe the diagram attachment got dropped though? |
GIT probably wiped it out since I sent it from an email client - I was unsure if
GIT would accept the attachment or not. Here, in text, is the essence of our
proposal.

•[BPV 770] Status of consenting (realizable entity)
–Legally effective consenting (planned process)

Ok. It looks like the above is not quite in Ontobee version of ICO yet? |
This is just one step away from the details of the form itself. I'm trying to encode a generic "Was consent obtained by patients" for sharing of their data in a particular aspect. ICO provides a lot of detail regarding who signed what (e.g. "informed consent form signed by human subject" ) but doesn't it make sense to have a summary phrase to represent the outcome of the whole process, e.g. "subject provided informed consent" and "subject refused informed consent"? Thx...
