SpaceFM uses spaces and hyphens (-) but not dots (.) or underscores (_) as separators in the text of labels under icons (Icons style view), but it would make sense to use them. Here are examples of filenames displayed with my current configuration:
ICON
.selected_edito
r
ICON
fontgroups.xm
l
ICON
sqlitebrowser.s
f.net
With dots and underscores treated as separators, filenames would be a lot prettier and easier to read:
ICON
.selected_
editor
ICON
fontgroups.
xml
ICON
sqlitebrowser.
sf.net

I looked into this and pango provides three wrap options - sparing you the details, spacefm uses the best of the three. I don't see any simple way to change the characters treated as separators - it may be possible to replace some of pangos functions for this but it looks quite involved. I notice gtk3 apps look the same way.
