As far as I understand the plugin, so far only Google services can be used.
I think that with OpenStreetmap and e.g. leaflet (https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Leaflet) we have a proper alternative which is in public hands. How hard is it to implement this as an alternative? Unfortunately, I miss a bit of knowledge (and budget) to push this very far.

I see that some options are mentioned in the PR pods-framework/pods#3634 .

Hi @fwolfst
OpenStreetmap would be a great addition for this. Unfortunately I'm also having trouble to find time to look into this at the moment (as is the case with this new field)
