Sub-entities need to be generalised

Sub-entities, that is entities owned by other entities, are currently heavily special-cased, and largely derived from code soully intended for the management of projectiles.

It would make things much easier if the code were expanded to reasonably deal with any properly formed subclass of 'entity'.
