This is something not related to the issue, but can it work with chrome instead of firefox?

You can change 'firefox' to 'google-chrome' in the code and it should work fine.
Maybe you can add an argument to ask user their preferred browser and switch accordingly.

I have tried trickle -s -u 100 -d 100 google-chrome as well as trickle -s -u 100 -d 100 /usr/bin/google-chrome but trickle doesn't seems to work with google-chrome
