Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
Sometimes the pipeline developer is absent, and an problem occurs with the pipeline. Without the developer to talk to it can be frustrating to try and progress, when one could switch to a different way of doing things.

Describe the solution you'd like
Some protocol describing how to progress and test and make changes, and how to progress outside of the system.
