Does clicking results change the search?

Need to decide how searches can be altered to enforce a level of consistency and clarity. Do the results views allow you to click and apply a filter for example? Or do we keep all of that in the filter view? Need to make it obvious and then stick to it as a rule either way.

(inclination is to not allow the search to be changed from the results view and keep query altering strictly to the filter side bar).
