Project description
Aether is a peer-to-peer network of independent, self-moderated communities.

It keeps 6 months of posts by default. It's gone after. If something is worth keeping, someone will save it within six months – but not from beyond that.

It's peer-to-peer, and it has no servers. It's privacy sensitive because of that, source IP of any specific public post cannot (easily) be determined.

Actions of moderators are visible to users. No content can just 'disappear', if something gets deleted, you'll know who did it, why they did it, and if you want, how to get it back.

Communities can elect and impeach their own mods by voting. If a mod behaves inappropriately, users can disable that mod locally as well.

Thank you for your contributions.

This has been automatically marked as stale because it has had no activity for 180 days.

If this is still important to you, we ask that you leave a comment below. Your comment can be as simple as "still important to me". This lets people see that at least one person still cares about this. Someone will have to do this at most twice a year if there is no other activity.

Here are suggestions that might help resolve this more quickly:

  1. Search for maintainers and people that previously touched the related code and @ mention them in a comment.
  2. Ask on the NixOS Discourse.
  3. Ask on the #nixos channel on irc.freenode.net.

They also have a tarball available. I tried to make a package for it but Nix packaging is too confusing for me.

I posted my progress at
maxhille@23c34ed

Obviously not a long term solution but enough for trying it out.

Hey folks

By now I am a bit better with NixOS and was able to make a working (at least for me) package. The PR is at #130105.

It is my first package addition so let's see how it goes.

Update: Aether is now available in nixos-unstable.

@nehbit Do you need anything?

@matthew-piziak I think this issue can be closed now.
