I am not sure if an update will be made. As it currently stands, I do not use this software and therefore don't have much of a reason to maintain it. Additionally, Paper has introduced many changes past 1.21.2 that break the current code due to changes in their Moonrise chunk system and on top of everything, the upcoming Paper hard fork will completely change how Paper forks are created and developed.
Currently, the project relies on Linear v1 which has several issues such as wearing down the disk much quicker than Anvil and using more RAM than Anvil due to how accessing chunks requires the entire region to be loaded.
Regarding your question about reverting back to Anvil, this is possible using the tools hosted on https://github.com/xymb-endcrystalme/LinearRegionFileFormatTools. All the information and tools regarding conversion from and to Linear is available on their repository.
Take of this as you will, I am not explicitly stating that the software is discontinued, but it may not be updated past 1.21.1.
Will you update the software in the future?
Is it possible to revert back to ANVIL in future?
