Installing tracks from source code is complicated. Possible ways of getting tracks running are:
- If you want to host the system on your local machine or your own, then try a ready-made stack like one from BitNami. You can download free, all-in-one native installers for Windows, Linux and OS X. You can also find VMWare virtual machines and images for the Amazon Cloud.
- Turnkey Linux offers pre-built Tracks appliances in several formats.
- If you want to use a hosted service, then look at the list of free and commercial tracks hosted services at Hosted Tracks.
- You can also install the whole stack from source (see below).
Recently updated install instructions:

for reference you can find a copy of the Database schema from 1.8devel. You may need to migrate it to the latest version though.
Here are some web hosts recommended by users which allow you to install Tracks and therefore use it from any internet-connected computer:
- Joyent: Where bsag hosts the Tracks project, her blog and her own private version of Tracks. They have all you need to install Rails applications, and great technical support.
- Slicehost: Built for developers. We offer 256/512/1024 Xen VPS Slices with choice of OS (Ubuntu, CentOS, Gentoo). The 256 is perfect for hosting Tracks and we’re big fans. Full root access – run Apache, Lighttpd, Mongrel, Webrick – your choice. Please contact us or pop into the chatroom with any questions.
- Site5: Installed and works without any problem.
