Donating to the Carpentries #250
Comments
I updated our balance, you can see it here. We spent around $200 for snacks per year and some misc expenses around $200 (stickers, etc.). If we have 4 workshops this year, we need to have at least $100 net gain from each workshop to compensate our expenses. Bottom line, $100 is a good amount per workshop, $200 is still okay if we want to be super generous. |
I'll contact Carpentries admin about donating! Thanks for the update. |
@nsahin or @lwjohnst86 - do you know if there are any rules about how our group can spend money? Should we ask for an invoice from the Carpentries? |
I am not familiar with any rules but I can check if there is any documentation about student clubs. At grad student associations, there are no rules on spending money. Donnelly GSA gets $1000 per year, so I tried to keep our spendings around that much. |
Yea, I am not familiar with any rules. It's our money 😛 we can do what we want with it 😄 |
Now that we're running a bunch of workshops, I would like to be able to donate some money to the Carpentries organization. What do you all think? @nsahin, how much is reasonable based on our finances?
By my rough math, we made about $550 after snacks and supplies from the most recent Data Carpentry. Maybe we could donate $100 to $200 per workshop that we've run so far this year?
