Sum of AUCell Scores

Hi,
I'm interested in exploring the total activity of a group of regulons that behave similarly across cells (for example, TFs known to form a complex and function together).

In the paper published in Nature Protocols (https://www.nature.com/articles/s41596-020-0336-2), it says "Because the enrichment score is not normalized for the size of the predicted targetome, the scores of different regulons cannot be compared." So I'm not sure if it is appropriate to add all AUCell scores from these regulons together...

My questions are: Can I sum up the AUCell scores of a group of regulons? If not, what is the best way to do it?
