Emotes fail to render when I type them, but do render when others type them

In addition, the emote picker does not load any emotes. I'm using Kali Linux 2020.1. The issue is happening both with global emotes and the emotes of channels I'm subscribed to. Having a channel's chat open in a browser shows that the emotes are actually going through, it's just an issue on my side.

When starting Orion from the command line, one of the first warnings I get are Warning: libpng warning: iCCP: known incorrect sRGB profile ((null):0, (null)); maybe this has something to do with it?
