When a DDoS occurs, the bot is spamming tweets (maybe due to auto-restart scripts of the Albion servers)

An idea would be doing a lookback and a "transit" state:

  • On server status change to online, look at the last 10 to 15 entires (which is equivalent to the last 10 to 15 minutes).
  • If the majority [66%+] of these statuses are "online" too, set the current state to online.
  • Else, set the status to "unknown" and inform that the servers appear to be online, but that isn't sure

Pros:

  • Not so much fluctuation on twitter
  • More reliable result

Cons:

  • Slower results. When the server is really back, people will know this after 5 to 7 minutes..

Wouldn't a good approach to this be if there is a sporadic behaviour actually flag it was "currently showing instabilities" where you would explain that the servers is tackling Ddos and/or doing preventative measures. Where the online/offline interval being as eager as displayed above flag it as "experiencing connection issues"?
