I created an Ansible Galaxy account last year and added some roles. Today I discovered that the service has changed so that I can't manage my roles unless I link my GitHub account. I didn't want to grant you the permissions you want (see issue #159 by @nicorikken), so I didn't want to link my GitHub account with my Ansible Galaxy account.
I then wanted to delete my existing roles from Ansible Galaxy, but I couldn't without linking my GitHub account. My options were either to ask you to delete them for me, or temporarily link my GitHub account and do it myself. I decided to link the account and delete the roles myself. After I did that, I didn't see a way to unlink my GitHub account within Ansible Galaxy, so I revoked access on the GitHub side.
So, my user experience today was that I discovered a substantial-to-me terms of service change, and then was obliged to temporarily agree to that terms of service change so that I could delete my data from your service. I should have been able to delete my data without agreeing to link my GitHub account.
Two ideas:
I understand you've probably configured your system so that fine-tuned control requires GitHub access, but you could add a simple red button that says "Delete All Roles", which shows an "Are you sure?" warning, which if the user agrees then just deletes all roles from the service.
If the number of legacy users like me is very small, you could send all of them one or more emails saying "We notice you have roles but haven't linked your GitHub account. This is required. Please do that or we'll delete your roles after XYZ date." and then do that.
