DynamoDB: Identifying Failures In a Batch And Retrying

I'm looking to implement retry behavior for BatchExecuteStatement. There are a couple things that are undocumented I'd like clarity on. In all cases here i'm referring to partial failures (some statements succeed but others have errors)

1. In general do the RetryMaxAttempts configuration settings apply to individual statement errors in a batch request
2. Assuming we must implement retries in our application code. There is no explicit way to identify the failed statements programmatically. The output contains a list of responses that may have an error but no identifying information about the statement. Is there a guarantee that the list of responses provided in the output is in the same order as the list of statements given?
