Why should it be removed?
ik this was asked in #416 but that issue got hard deleted so I cant read it and find out
(and both google and bing stopped offering cached paged earlier this year so cant use that to read #416)
weird honestly

I have the same question.
I found a comment here in module/customize.sh:

# playcurl must be removed when flashing PIF
if [ -d "/data/adb/modules/playcurl" ]; then
    touch "/data/adb/modules/playcurl/remove"
    ui_print "! playcurl module removed!"
fi

But there is no more descriptions. Is the correct approach to reinstall the playcurl module after every update of PlayIntegrityFix? Or Should I remove playcurl module and not use it at any more?

may have found the reason? PlayIntegrityNEXT has been depreciated and has transfered to the PlayCurlNext repository
https://github.com/daboynb/playcurlNEXT

has a whole new versioning system and everything
so it could be just as simple as trying to force you to the newest repository?

Since some 17.7 or earlier there hasn't been a need for an additional app to get a valid key any longer, at least in my case. I also wondered about the sudden disappearance, so thank you guys for the find.
