as opposed to internal editorial notes which have already been incorporated into the example folios as TEI elements:

possibilities:

link each outside essay/resource explicitly to the entries it discusses by using the id of the entry as the target
have each entry point to its corresponding external essay/resource (good option if you do not control the content of the external resource)
