Research

When do you want to do research? I want to do research next semester, ie Spring 2025.

What is exciting to you about research? While I've found that I have an interest in the intersection of software and hardware, I had not thought of myself as a research person. But after talking to my friends in labs, they made it sound very intriguing, and the more I looked into the more I was eager to have the opportunity to experience research for myself. I really enjoyed CS 3410, enough to TA for it, in order to explore the entanglement of hardware and software even more thus this lab in particular really speaks to me.

What kind of research do you want to do? I am very open to exploration

Background

Was there a paper that particularly excited you?

As I am currently taking CS 3110, I recently read "Why Functional Programming Matters" by by John Hughes, and it excited me because it gave me a deeper appreciation for OCaml. I like learning more about the languages I am working with.

Which of the current research projects would you be interested in working on and why? The Calyx sounds very interesting, to be combining "software-like control" and "hardware like structure", that pitch alone is enough to catch my attention. I tested it in my browser for awhile and decided that I would love to explore it further given the chance.

Anything else you want to tell us about yourself? This would be my first lab experience, but I am excited to learn all I can and potentially be able to help in such amazing projects!

As it happens, I happen to currently be looking for one or two people to join a project about efficient genomics processing. To be totally transparent, I originally tried recruiting MEng students at the beginning of the semester and got no bites—but I did write up this description of where we're going:
