This is a nice way to generate SLD and would also be nice if we could edit existing SLD. Before going too far down that path, I wonder if you've researched perhaps an XSD tool (e.g. xsd-forms); not sure if that's a valid alternative or not. I do like your solution very much.

Totally agreed it would be great to be able to load in an existing SLD for editing.
I did not think of looking into XSD GUI generation tools. I was hoping for a very quick, lightweight solution fully tailored to SLD editing. In my experience more general tools come with a cost for their ease of development- they are typically harder to customize and usually quite a bit more heavy-weight. In the end the SLED code is a bit more complex that I was hoping for, but it has the advantage of being totally customizable.
Also, I wanted an editor that actually exposes the SLD syntax, so that it's a learning tool as well.
