Unable to use FN Keys to adjust volume

I have an ASUS laptop (ASUS N56 series) and I want to adjust the volume by using the FN key and F10 (mute), F11 (vol down), F12 (vol up), but the FN keys doesn't work.
Before I was on open suse leap and adding "acpi_osi= " in kernel parameters solved the problem, but in gecko next it doesn't work.

Hi there, normally I would expect anything related to the kernel to behave exactly the same between GeckoLinux STATIC or NEXT and vanilla openSUSE Leap. But to rule out the possibility of a difference caused by the desktop environment could you please test GeckoLinux STATIC Plasma?

Maybe the asus-nb-wmi module could be a reason, I install open suse argon, and in it the asus module is present, but in gecko next when I type modprobe asus-nb-wmi it says that it is not in the system.

I'll try later the gecko STATIC plasma and I'll back to report

all power options work just fine, only brightness control needs module asus-nb-wmi to be loaded and acpi_backlight=intel acpi_osi=

The module appears to be part of the mainline kernel, so I'm not sure why it doesn't load for you. Maybe double-check that those GRUB options are set (YaST Bootloader makes it easy) and then reboot and try to load the module again with sudo .

Today I try again with gecko, the way to use the FN keys on an Asus laptop is thanks to the asus-nb-wmi module, but for some reason it wasn't instaled on my system, so I thought that the kernel was the reason, so I realized that the kernel default extra package installs a lot of extra modules among them the asus-nb-wmi module. So after install that package and restart, the FN keys works perfectly 😀.

Interesting, thanks for reporting that. I'll have to check into pre-installing that extras package, I suspect there's some reason why it's not there by default, but worth looking into. Thanks again!

Hey there! Last week I tried installing Gecko Linux Static and faced this problem. The Fn Keys work in OpenSUSE and Ubuntu!
I have an Asus n53ta and didn't find such asus-nb-wmi package in YaST Software Management (searching for "wmi").
How do I install this kernel default extra package?
