No audio

Hey linux lovers,

I'm using gecko xfce tumbleweed. And for some reason the sound isn;t working. It's a new laptop. It came with windows and I'm dual booting, and i get sound on windows, but nothing on gecko. Everything is up to date.

Any ideas?

This is solved. Somehow the audio in i3 magically starting working. Probably a lid glitch or something. So this can be closed.

Actually, sometimes my audio works and sometimes it doesn't still. When it doesn't work I have to reboot the laptop and then the audio usually works.

You got any ideas on it?

It's probably what they call a "quirk" with the soundcard, and once such quirks are identified the kernel developers have to include special handling for them in the driver code to work around the buggy behavior of the soundcard. I would recommend you search in https://bugzilla.opensuse.org and if there's not a similar preexisting report you can file a new one. In the past a SUSE kernel developer by the name of Takashi Iwai was extremely helpful in patching a major quirk with a soundcard in one of my laptops.
