Request for utility to place error bars

When you place a lot of data points with error bars you can end up with quite a bit of clutter. It would be nice to have a utility function of some sort to reduce the number of error bars placed on the plot and possibly have them staggered so that they don't overlap.

A very silly example of cluttered error bars is attached.
