Can we have a release just for Python 3.12 support please? #7110
Comments
you can go up to 3.13 so that it is done... |
@kolergy I'm not sure I understand what you mean? Python 3.13 is just as unsupported by Open3D as 3.12... The Open3D 0.18 release goes up to Python 3.11. |
If you do the effort to support 3.12, you might as well make sure it works with 3.13 so you don't have to do the work twice |
Python 3.13 is unsupported by tensorflow at the moment, so waiting for them would delay it even more. |
Duplicate of Also, a 3.12 supporting release looks imminent |
0.19 has been released on PyPI, but a build error has prevented the release of Linux ARM64 wheels |
Checklist
main
branch).Proposed new feature or change
Issue #6433 has been closed more than 6 months ago, but the release 0.19 checklist is still only 51% complete.
This means that our https://github.com/cwi-dis/cwipc is still stuck at Python 3.11 (and undoubtedly various other packages that use Open3D are in the same situation).
This is getting to be unmaintainable: Python 3.11 is in security mode, so my end users have to go out of their way to install a Python (especially on Windows).
And my GitHub actions workflow is becoming very complicated, especially since the default Linux runner has switched to Ubuntu 24.04 which has Python 3.12.
Installing Open3D from source would work for me as a developer on my own machine, but is hardly an option for ci/cd, let alone end users...
