Regex search doesn't work for filenames

Steps to reproduce

  1. open directory containing files
  2. enter in search field regular expression

Expected behavior

you getting search results matching the regular expression

Additional information

Original issue got closed without any clear reason or explanation (#3090 (comment)) and with not so smart advises on how to NOT use regex in everyday life.
