Dr. Shir holds a B.Sc. in Physics and Computer Science from the <strong><a href="http://www.huji.ac.il/" target="_new">Hebrew University of Jerusalem</a></strong>, Israel (conferred 2003), and both M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Computer Science from <strong><a href="http://www.leiden.edu/" target="_new">Leiden University</a></strong>, The Netherlands (conferred 2004, 2008). Upon his graduation, he completed a two-years term as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Rabitz Group in the Department of Chemistry at <strong><a href="http://www.princeton.edu/" target="_new">Princeton University</a></strong>, USA (2008-2010). He then joined IBM-Research as a Research Staff Member (2010-2013), which constituted his second postdoctoral term. <br>
He was appointed a Faculty Member in Tel-Hai College in 2012, where he has been serving as a Lecturer at the School of Computer Science ever since. <br>
His current topics of interest include Scientific Informatics, Experimental Optimization, Natural Computing, Machine Learning, Computational Intelligence in Physical Sciences, Quantum Control and Quantum Information.
