On the General tab it is possible to select a timezone for the hotspot, and while I would welcome having it replaced with a list that is a little shorter, I would also like to understand why of all places in the world the great state of Indiana is so prominently favoured?

It's been established that location-based timezones are the most practical because people don't know better and because DST adds complexity.
You understand this list comes from a recognized source. I don't want to discuss the list.
With that said, the UX is terrible currently unless you want UTC 😉.
I suggest we replace it with an auto-filling text-field such as the one with have on zimfarm for the languages/categories. It's a lot more flexible than this bare list and maintains the feature.
