that seems like the mesh for that string was being rendered too, in opengl we render that mesh with the letter texture but that shouldn't be happening in cairo. it's weird that it doesn't happen for the bigger font size.

Is that a screen grab of the PDF that is written into the data directory when you press 's' or is a screen shot of the app window? b/c I didn't see the image problem on the screen, just in the cairo-rendered pdf.

sorry, for pictureGrabber i mean a screenshot from an external app. Not tried "with pressing the 's' key". i can make a quick test right now in few minutes.

oh no, this happens also for the Pandaboard. Saving it in .pdf with the 's' key give me the same result as for you
i thought that you had this issue in the viewport window...not when you render and save the file into .pdf
i can't post the pdf because it is too big...
