Found a utility to convert any image file into a Minecraft Map .dat file. http://sourceforge.net/projects/mapitemedit/
Have added some original artwork of Cheshire Cat and the kids' MLP OCs... and a photo of (someone called) Steve! (well its sort of Minecraft themed I guess)
I can probably get the kids to draw something minecrafty, scan it in, and convert it...
Please don't include anything that could be considered copyrighted or a derivative work. I've got a whole bunch that I haven't check in for that reason...

Ideally was was looking for pixel-pushed artwork, or at least something that wouldn't massively stand out from the famous works.
If you're willing to spend a few $ on it, you might be able to commission something from one of the icon artists on DeviantArt.com. I have no idea what they would charge for making a set of small pixel images, but it may not be overly expensive.
Of the pics I submitted, only the pony_derpy one is a drawing of a copyrighted character (so technially a 'transformative work' but not worth the hassle). The others are all original, though the pony ones are 'in the style of' which I believe is legal (IANAL, US law may be different). By all means pick and choose any or none as you see fit -- I just grabbed whatever original images I had on disk that converted well.
It would be awesome to have some original, minecraft themed artwork in the paintings folder. I can provide the pallet in various formats, if required.
Anybody know any pixel-artists?
