Does Pest run tests asynchronously?

We're seeing some odd inconsistency in our Pest tests recently added to our Symfony project. about 50% of the time the Symfony Crawler instance returns "The current node list is empty" when attempting to access page elements, but the same tests will work fine on the next run.

I've raised an issue in the Symfony project, but someone questioned whether est is running tests asynchronously. I didn't think it did, but can someone advise, is that correct?
