Wand doesn't work on String?

I don't know if this is on purpose or a bug but the wands don't work on strings. I'm building a project on a high mountain and wanted to do a stringceiling at a high height to prevent snow from falling onto my decocraft stuff and garden etc.

I hope there is a solution to this cause placing around 5k Strings per hand is like... well xD
