Describe the feature
Generally preheat (as is currently implemented) is used in the following situations (as I understand it):
Which is very close or equal to the situation where a user would select Set Ready.
As such, I think Set Ready and Preheat should be mashed together somewhat to optimise processes where it actually matters.
Related:
Since moving "Set ready" and possibly changing the whole intent of the preheat menu may be a bit extreme compared to existing plans, I made a new issue rather than updating the preheat menu one.
Expected functionality
Since the preheat menu is planned to be overhauled (see PR #3709), I see 2 main options of implementing this:
Add "Set ready" as optional behaviour on preheat
If enabled in settings, "Preheat for printing" (as opposed for cleaning nozzle preheat or other options) would also automatically set the printer as ready. This way, especially in an environment with multiples of the same printer, the user can immediately see which printer has had preheat started in the slicer, even if a different operator started the preheat.
Completely rebrand the preheat menu as "Set ready" specific
This way, the "heat only nozzle" and "heat only bed" would be moved out of the proposed preheat menu and into a submenu of the control menu, dedicated to maintenance. Likewise, the "Set ready" option would be moved into the new "Ready"/"Connect"/"Prepare" menu.
This menu would roughly have the following options:
