Automerge on schedule not working #33914

I have automerge setup and working, it is showing that it is enabled and showing the correct schedule in the generated PR. However it seems as if renovate is simply not running during my scheduled hours and so none of my PRs are getting merged.

If I manually tell renovate to retry the PR during my automerge schedule hours, it works. What am I missing?

Read https://docs.renovatebot.com/key-concepts/scheduling/, especially:

Be sure to schedule enough time for Renovate to process your repository. Do not set schedules like "Run Renovate for an hour each Sunday" as you will run into problems.

and https://docs.renovatebot.com/mend-hosted/overview/#resources-and-scheduling

In short: you can expect jobs to be scheduled every 4 hours, so if you set a window of 1 hour per day, you have a ~25% chance of a job occurring during that window.

You need to look at the logs then and:

Identify which branches you think should automerge which don't
Look at the debug logs to see why Renovate says it doesn't

The issue is that the logs are showing it simply didn't run a scan during my 4 hour merge window on the repo. So when it does run a scan, it is showing it doesn't merge because it is off-schedule.

It looks to me like I am seeing daily scans and commit scans only.

I think maybe I know why. It looks like all the ones that are only Daily scanning are still in the onboarded stage, not activated. I was avoiding manually merging these to test the automerge functionality, but maybe leaving them in onboarded prevents periodic scans from happening? My other repositories seem to be getting periodic scans every 3-5 hours, which aligns with the documentation.

Gotcha. So that is it then. Reading documentation on onboarded vs activated I didn't see that difference. I assume this will fix it then.

Hmm, it seems it still missed one on an activated repo. Showing no scans since 10 hours ago. I'm thinking automerge schedules just aren't going to be that reliable on free edition unless the schedule is something like "on the weekend"

I may have to manually implement something, or would switching to the self hosted version improve this?

This one was on sonarr, which is in an actived state (I merged a renovate PR for it yesterday)

Last run: Jan 31, 2025, 23:31:49

So it's been about 10 hours. This is actually true of a handful of my repositories, but this is the only one which had an update.

Edit:

Strangely it seemed like it was going every 4 hours yesterday post activation, until midnight at which point it just stopped and hasn't run yet today.
