Description

rsk-cli is a command-line tool for interacting with Rootstock blockchain

Installation

To install the CLI tool globally, use the following command:

npm i -g @rsksmart/rsk-cli

Development

Prerequisites

Before you can start developing with rsk-cli, ensure that you have the following tools installed on your system:

  • Node.js: Make sure Node.js is installed, as it is required for running the CLI tool.

Features

1. Manage Wallet

The wallet command allows you to manage your wallet on the Rootstock blockchain. You can create a new wallet, use an existing wallet, or import a custom wallet.

rsk-cli wallet

This command will guide you through the process of wallet management, offering options to:

  • Create a new Ethereum-compatible wallet
  • Import an existing wallet
  • List all saved wallets
  • Switch between saved wallets
  • Update a wallet's name
  • Backup the wallet's file
  • Delete a saved wallet

ℹ️ Info:

When you choose to save a wallet using rsk-cli, your private key is securely encrypted to protect it from unauthorized access.

The tool uses AES-256-CBC encryption, a robust encryption standard. Your password is used to derive a strong encryption key through the scrypt function, ensuring that even weak passwords result in strong keys. A random Initialization Vector (IV) is also generated to ensure that even if the same data is encrypted multiple times, the output will be different each time.

After encryption, your wallet's private key, along with the necessary encryption metadata, is securely stored in a file named rootstock-wallet.json in the current working directory. This file allows you to manage and reuse your wallets securely within rsk-cli without exposing your sensitive private keys.

2. Check Balance

The balance command allows you to check the balance of any token on the Rootstock blockchain for any of the saved wallets. You can check the balance on either the mainnet or testnet using the appropriate flags.

Mainnet

rsk-cli balance

3. Transfer rBTC

The transfer command allows you to transfer rBTC from your saved wallet to a specified address on the Rootstock blockchain. You can execute the transfer on either the mainnet or testnet using the appropriate flags.

Mainnet

rsk-cli transfer --address 0xRecipientAddress --value 0.001

Testnet

Use the -t or --testnet flag to execute the transfer on the Rootstock testnet.

rsk-cli transfer --testnet --address 0x0x08C4E4BdAb2473E454B8B2a4400358792786d341 --value 0.001

4. Check Transaction Status

The tx command allows you to check the status of a specific transaction on the Rootstock blockchain by providing the transaction ID. You can check the status on either the mainnet or testnet using the appropriate flags.

Mainnet

5. Deploy Smart Contract

The deploy command allows you to deploy a smart contract on the Rootstock blockchain. This command supports deployment on both the mainnet and testnet.

Mainnet

rsk-cli deploy --abi <path_to_abi> --bytecode <path_to_bytecode> --args <arg1> <arg2> ...

Testnet

rsk-cli deploy --testnet --abi <path_to_abi> --bytecode <path_to_bytecode> --args <arg1> <arg2> ...

Dynamic Wallet Selection

rsk-cli deploy --wallet <name> --abi <path_to_abi> --bytecode <path_to_bytecode> --args <arg1> <arg2> ...

6. Verify Smart Contract

The verify command allows you to verify a smart contract on the Rootstock blockchain using JSON Standard Input via Rootstock Explorer API. This command supports contract verification on both the mainnet and testnet.

Mainnet

With arguments:

rsk-cli verify --json <path_to_json> --address <address> --name <contract_name> --decodedArgs <arg1> <arg2> ...

Without arguments:

rsk-cli verify --json <path_to_json> --address <address> --name <contract_name>

Testnet

With arguments:

rsk-cli verify --testnet --json <path_to_json> --address <address> --name <contract_name> --decodedArgs <arg1> <arg2> ...

7. Interact with verified smart contracts

The contract command allows you to interact with a smart contract on the Rootstock blockchain. This command lists all available read functions of a verified smart contract and allows you to call them. Write functions are excluded to ensure no state-changing operations are performed accidentally.

Mainnet

rsk-cli contract --address <address>

Testnet

rsk-cli contract --address <address> --testnet

8. Interact with RSK bridge contract

The bridge command allows you to interact with the RSK bridge contract on the Rootstock blockchain. This command lists all allowed read and write functions of the RSK bridge contract and allows you to call them.

Mainnet

rsk-cli bridge --testnet

9. Fetch Wallet History

The history command allows you to fetch the transaction history for a wallet on the Rootstock blockchain. This includes transactions such as ERC20, ERC721, and external transfers. You can specify whether to fetch the history from the Mainnet or Testnet by providing the appropriate flag. For this command to work, make sure to have an Alchemy API key you can get from Alchemy Dashboard.

Mainnet

Without having the Alchemy API key previously set:

rsk-cli history --apiKey <apiKey> --number <number>

With Alchemy API key already set:

rsk-cli history --number <number>

Testnet

Without having the Alchemy API key previously set:

rsk-cli history --testnet --apiKey <apiKey> --number <number>

9. Fetch Wallet History

The batch-transfer command allows you to send multiple transactions in one batch. This feature supports both interactive mode (manual input) and file-based batch processing, enabling you to transfer rBTC to multiple addresses in a single operation.

Interactive Mode

In this mode, the CLI will prompt you to enter the recipient addresses and amounts interactively.

Mainnet

rsk-cli batch-transfer --interactive

In this mode, you provide a JSON file containing the batch transactions. The file must include a list of transactions, each specifying the recipient address (address) and the amount (amount). The file should look something like this:
