If a VMS panel consists of several physical displays, we need a configuration that reflects this.
If an image display can be use to display one or more virtual displays of other types (e.g. an icon display or text display), then we need a way to configure how these virtual displays are arranged. There are many ways to do this. Some examples of layout systems include:
