This message instantiates at app launch and won't go away on KitKat. Guessing it's SD card permissions garbage with KitKat, and it's stuck in a loop trying to index a directory it can't see.

Thanks for the bug report. I haven't had a chance to test on KitKat yet. I don't have a physical device to test with but I will test it on a virtual machine.

I have had this error whilst in testing, but I thought it was fixed when I added the libraries feature.

The remote shouldn't actually touch the SD card. The directory it is referring to is a remote one. It sounds like it's having trouble connecting.

Are you using an IP address or a hostname to connect to VLC? If the latter, I would suggest trying with the IP address.

IP address. Is there a way to disable this feature is nothing else? The
message seems to instantiate every couple of seconds.

I don't know of any ways around it at the moment. I am looking into it though.

Has it been working previously? Or has it never worked?

Was the server automatically detected by the app? If so, you could try to add another server manually to see if the problem persists.

Are there any error messages via LogCat? Which VLC version are you using? Which OS?

What if the indexing routine fired only when you access the files tab? I
have no use for the feature yet.

I should mention -- the message instantiates every couple of seconds
systemwide! I have to force stop the app to get it to stop popping up.
Can't do any typing with the message in the way. Which is too bad, because
I love the app.

  • It worked previously, stopped, and started working again. I've tried
adding the server manually, didn't help.
  • Latest VLC stable (updated yesterday) on OSX 10.9.1
  • Haven't checked logcat
