#3 added 'placeholder' tooltips for 'ab' and 'ls' markup.
See this comment.

Deciding appropriate tooltips is the topic of this issue.

  • tagcount_ab.txt has '?' in 38 items (out of 420+)
    • A few of these have probable tooltips from me - if confirmed, the '?' could be removed from these.
    • @Andhrabharati may already know tooltips for some of the others of these.
  • tagcount_ls.txt has '?' in 511 items (out of 970+).
    • Some of these really need no tooltip, since the abbreviation itself is already complete. e.g. Aung and Rhys Davids, Compendium of Philos.
      • We could put an 'empty' string as the tooltip for these.
      • This subcategory is probably rather large, so would be a good place to start.
    • Some of the rest could be resolved by referring to tooltips for similar ls abbreviations for PW, PWG, PWKVN, GRA, SCH,
      • e.g. Aufrecht, Colebrooke, Essays
    • A few could be resolved by Google searches (e.g. Charpentier, Cowell)

I would prefer to leave the work of this issue to someone else.
Wonder if @AnnaRybakovaT would find this topic of interest?

Here is the quick-look result of the tagcount_ab.txt, @funderburkjim --
tagcount_ab.txt

[Apart from resolving(!!) the 38 '?' items, minor corrections at some other entries are also made.]

As per your preference, I am not touching the tagcount_ls file (for now); let's see if someone comes forward sometime in near future.

@AnnaRybakovaT

Pl. look at all the lines of tagcount_ls.txt once, even if not containing the ?-mark as suggested by Jim.
[Reason: I've noticed some errors in such lines, in a quick browsing now!!]

Dear Nagabhushana,
I will not be available for next 3 weeks (tonight I am going to Athens and after to Russia). I will continue my work from the beginning of February when I come back at home.

Dear all,
I am here again. I am so sorry that my break was longer than I exected. I had arrived at home a week ago but after my arrival I was sick. Apparently on my long way from Russia to Greece (3 flights and 1 ferry) I was infected with some kind of virus. In any case today I feel much beter and I am ready to continue this current task.

I hope this work has sense and it will be useful for somebody. To be honest it is pretty time consuming task, but I have patience))

@AnnaRybakovaT Hi!
Please explain how to read your tagcount_ls_anna_10.12.24.txt file.

Ideally, I would like to be able to distinguish the lines of your file that are 'good to go',
and use these 'good to go' tooltips in the 'official' tooltip file used in displays for bhs.

@AnnaRybakovaT Would you be interested in making an index for the 1860 Bombay edition of BHĀGAVATAPURĀṆA ?

This is needed so we can finish the task discussed at sanskrit-lexicon/PWG#81

If so, I'll start an issue where we can discuss the details.

Please explain how to read your tagcount_ls_anna_10.12.24.txt file.

Dear Jim,
Glad to see you,

The file tagcount_ls_anna_10.12.24.txt is based on the file tagcount_ls.txt.

As was recommended:
изображение

  • I have checked every line of the tagcount_ls.txt. If I did any changes I put ;; (instead of ?-mark or if a not containing the ?-mark tooltip had error).

  • I got the missed tooltips from many sourses - first of all from lists of abbreviations of BHS and other dictionaries. As well Google search helped a lot.

  • The double semicolon inside of tooltips doesn't have any special reason, just to separate diffrent publications or editions.

  • The tooltip for "Lefm." - was resolved by Abbreviations of BHS:
309 ls Lefm. ;; Lalitavistara, ed. Lefmann, Halle, 1902; Critical Apparatus, 1908.

изображение

  • You can use the file tagcount_ls_anna_10.12.24.txt until the line 517
    1 ls M. Leumann, IF ;; M.Leumann, Zur Stammbildung der Verben im Indischen // Indogermanische Forschungen, Vol.57, 1940, pp.205-238.

I am glad to do any current tasks))).
I can take a break from BHS (to finish the tooltips BHS I will need around couple months more) and to focus now on making an index for BHĀGAVATAPURĀṆA.

@AnnaRybakovaT I started a new issue (sanskrit-lexicon/PWG#82) for the BhP-Bombay index project. Let's put further discussion there.

Anna, I see that your file is missing the line 901 of the original version by Jim.

Jim, you could as well incorporate the changes in my ab file (posted last year itself at the top of this issue), along with this ls file; and I could look at your corrections of Anna's file (I have noticed a few in a quick browsing) when you do that.

Thanks a lot! you are right.

Jim's first version

File references are in the issue4 directory of this repo.

The end result is tagcount_ls_jim_29.12.24.txt. which should be thought of as comparable to tagcount_ls_anna_10.12.24.txt.

  • diff_10.12.24_29.12.24.txt shows differences
  • diff_10.12.24_29.12.24_nolsfm.txt shows differences when 'lsfm' is reverted to 'ls' (see comment below on lsfm)

My main contribution was to correlate with the abbreviations from the front matter:

  • bhsfm_abbr.txt has the extracted abbreviations (both 'ab' and 'ls').
  • tagcount_ls_jim_29.12.24.txt marks as 'lsfm' the ls abbreviations found in the front matter, and sets the tooltip for these.
    • readme_tagcount_ls_anna_0.txt itemizes most (maybe all) of the other changes I made.
    • A few of the lsfm tooltips had been revised by Anna/Andhrabharati. I'll be glad to revert these as needed.

Jim, you could as well incorporate the changes in my ab file

@Andhrabharati I think those changes were already in Anna's file, but I'm not sure. I'll be glad to revise 'my' version
as needed.

I did not take into account Anna's comment file -- beyond my paygrade! In particular not sure how/whether to use
the sequences of line numbers (e.g. for Bendall)
