First thoughts on new markup for alternates

Usual features of MW markup in first two cases (verbs, substantives/ indeclineables) :

  • multiple entries, one for each alternate
  • different metaline for alternate
  • identical 'body' (lines between <L> and <LEND>
  • Same <info or/and="..."/> is part of body
  • different <info lex="..."/>
    • These need to be 'harvested' from current version of mw, since Andhrabharati chooses to remove this markup in his revision

The new markup might replace the group of alternate entries with just one <L>
The new entry could have an optional multiple-metaline format,
Details yet to be determined. Requires coordination with other programs (make_xml, makehw).
New markup so applicable to other dictionaries

  • prefixed verbs as in PW/PWG
  • gender alternates
  • samAsa sub-headwords
  • related words in AE (under sleep related sleeper, sleeping)

I just recall one of my early days' post saying that 'mind wave-lengths' of us both are matching, @funderburkjim !
