@funderburkjim seems to have a dual mind in attending to this!
He says there is no scope for retaining the æ (in MW), but he has kept the same ligature (diphthong) at many other CDSL texts!!
I feel, any rule or process should be applicable across all the CDSL texts consistently.

I was not (and still am not) certain whether to aim for cross-dictionary consistency regarding these diphthongs. Please proceed as you think best.
