HTML TOC navigation is confusing #261
Comments
Same problem here on the latest Safari and Firefox on macOS Sequoia 15.0.1. The links do work (just need to collapse back the Table of Contents), but the ToC takes the entire page width. |
@lucag I've no idea what you're saying. I've added a video in the ticket showing the problem. |
If you close the table of contents (or scroll to the bottom) you'll find it has navigated to where you wanted to go to. However it is a terrible UI as it currently exists, as it's not obvious it has done anything. I might rework it using the relatively new popover feature in HTML. Writing content is a higher priority for me at the moment, though. |
@noelwelsh I've updated the ticket title to accurately indicate the problem, which isn't as bad as the links being broken, but still very confusing.
I think the easiest thing to do would be to close the TOC and scroll to the desired section. The browser does the scrolling anyway, so, closing the TOC should give the impression that something happened. |
None of the links in the TOC go anywhere. Chrome v131.0.6778.140.
