Restore Messages Does Nothing #2276
Comments
This bug makes Caprine pretty much unusable, because I can't see where I left off in each chat. |
Same thing here, I just clean installed this for the first time on windows and the "Restore Now" button doesn't do anything. |
Yep. Basically unusable now that Facebook defaults to end-to-end encryption. Workaround done here worked for me. |

That sounds like the hidden settings window. The PR will give you an option to disable the hidden settings hack caprine uses to apply some options from its menu. It doesn't fix the underlying problem which is caused when FB makes a change to the UI such that caprine doesn't recognize a window as a settings window so doesn't close it after applying a setting. The latest version has fixed it, but it's possible it's broken again if you're seeing it on the latest version. In the meantime, you can get around it by unhiding the settings window with dev tools and closing it as described in several other issues. Then you can unlock messages. I'm on mobile now so can't look it up easily. |

Fresh (and first-time) install of Caprine v2.60.3 installed via
apt-get install caprine
on Unbuntu v20.04 LTS.Many of my chat screens say "Messages are missing. Restore now", but when I click "Restore now" it has absolutely no effect, as if I didn't click anything at all???
