Frozen delay when using Select kart in story mode pause screen

When in story mode i press Esc and click Select kart there is a slight "frozen delay".

Instead of showing the kart selection screen ... first the pause screen gets removed (as if i pressed Esc again) so im back at the story mode game, but frozen (speedrun timer is also frozen) and engine sound playing (for about 1 second on slower computer and maybe 0.1-0.2 on faster computer). Then after that i get the kart selection screen.

It would be better to go directly from the pause screen to the kart selection screen.
Just stay at the pause screen until the kart selction screen is ready to show.
