Checklist

  • I have used the search function to see if someone else has already submitted the same bug report.
  • I will describe the problem with as much detail as possible.

App

Thunderbird for Android

App version

8.2

Where did you get the app from?

F-Droid

Android version

Android 14

Device model

Xiaomi Poco F5

Steps to reproduce

  1. Import email accounts or add some manually. Any email account will do.
  2. By default, notifications are OFF.

Expected behavior

IMHO, notifications should be ON by default.
Why would I jump through all those hoops setting up multiple different email accounts on my phone only to be kept in the dark if a new mail has arrived?

Actual behavior

After setup, all email notifications are OFF.

Are you importing accounts from Thunderbird desktop?

During regular account setup (not import) users can configure whether they want to enable notifications for the account. When exporting settings (from the Android app) that information is included in the settings file and it should be imported correctly.
However, when importing accounts from Thunderbird desktop users are currently not asked if they want to enable notifications and they are disabled by default.
