Term/Phrase

Dependent Identity

Definition

An identity for which the subject does not have an independent will or a legal authority of self-representation.

Usage example

1.) The MITRE Corporation utilizes a dependent identity which is managed by its corporate officers.
2.) If incapacitated, the following identity assets may be managed by my spouse as a dependent identity: [a, b, c, d].

Relevant Communities

The guardianship community would be interested. I would point out that while guardianship is focused on how to assert authority over a dependent identity, the Dependent Identity approach focuses on a subject centric holistic approach to support quorum based decisions enforced by code rather than requiring external governance post hoc.

Speaking for one part of the Guardianship community, as of 23 Mar 2021, we're just about to publish two documents from the technical stream of the Sovrin Guardianship Working Group , an Implementation Guidelines document and Technical Requirements Document.
