Is there a proper way for installing GNOME extensions?

I'm currently in the process of migrating my custom repo (with lots of things borrowed from ublue) to the startingpoint repo.

With my current setup, the base image only includes the following:

• Remove some packages (firefox etc.)
• Setup some 3rd party repos
• Install (overlay) some packages
• Enable some systemd related stuff

Then, when the system boots, I trigger my ansible playbooks to do the rest:

• Install flatpak packages (moving onto yafti)
• Font Configuration (downloading some nerd fonts)
• Some GNOME related configuration
  • Install, enable, disable some extensions
  • Set some dconf settings
• Custom shell scripts to install some tools such as (k9s, kind, gh, golang, rust, etc)
• Work related stuff

I want most of these things to be taken care of at the user level so they're not appropriate to be placed in scripts (of startingpoint image).

Can yafti install GNOME extensions? Or maybe run some shell scripts?

I've been using this tool: https://github.com/essembeh/gnome-extensions-cli

Which lets me do stuff like:

pip install --upgrade gnome-extensions-cli
gext install [email protected]
gext install [email protected]
gext install [email protected]

Do you use this manually? Or do you hook it somewhere during the initial setup?

I do it as a post install setup in my justfile, but should work anywhere you can script stuff post-install.
